[ Summary ] Although the survival rate of dialysis patients in Japan is the highest in the world, renal rehabilitation was introduced much later in Japan than in the US or European countries. Several studies have shown that endurance and/or resistance training improve not only the physical functioning and performance of dialysis patients but also their mental health. Simple therapies combining physical training and proper nutrition should be routinely administered to dialysis patients. Like nutritional examinations, endurance testing should also become a routine procedure, enabling comprehensive renal rehabilitation to be distributed to all Japanese dialysis facilities.
