[ Summary ] This article describes self-management strategies to reduce fluid intake in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Evidence-based nursing is carried out with these strategies; (1)KAB modeling (knowledge, attitude and behavior), (2)trans-theoretical modeling using peer to peer education, (3)operational frameworks, (4)empowerment through counseling.
Since restriction of fluid intake is a life-long process supportive nursing intervention must be performed repeatedly. Because not only HD patients, but also medical staffs sometimes encounter difficulties in maintaining adequate self-care for fluid intake, it is essential to provide ongoing educational intervention.
