[ Summary ] |
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) plays a crucial role in managing pediatric patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) . However, it is rarely prescribed for adult patients, especially in developed countries, including Japan. On the other hand, the role of PD cannot be undervalued, because of its economic merits and simplicity, which is important in developing nations. Furthermore, it has been reported that high dosage PD has resulted in clinical outcomes equivalent to those in which patients were treated with daily hemodialysis. The role of PD for AKI in adult patients should be re-evaluated. |
