[ Summary ] The functionality of filters for continuous blood purification therapy (CBP) during acute stage treatment, biocompatibility, ultra filtration rates, clearance rates, and antithrombogenicity, are very important factors. CBP filters distributed in Japan have excellent biocompatibility, clearance and ultra filitration rates. The development of PMMA filters with the ability to adsorb low molecular proteins is expected. These hoped for filters will remove various cytokines through absorption. Acertaining the characteristics of filters with different membrane materials is very important. There is little evidence concerning clinical study outcomes comparing filters with different membrane materials for CBP use. Therefore, new evidence concerning these factors is required.
