[ Summary ] The control of excessive plasma phosphate concentrations in dialysis patients is important to prevent CKD-MBD. There are, however, few studies of phosphate kinetics in dialysis patients. Although the molecular weight of phosphate ions, primarily contained in the intravascular compartment, is relatively low, removal dynamics for phosphates ions through hemodialysis treatment are complicated. A tendency of relatively lower reduction rates of plasma phosphate concentration with higher dialyzer, clearance therefore, was often shown in a typical dialysis treatments. Establishment of a detailed kinetic model involving phosphate generation and transport between intra and extra vascular compartments is required for improved understanding of phosphate dynamics during dialysis treatment.
