[ Summary ] Although it has been reported that hemodialysis (HD) itself does not increase the incidence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, HCV infectionrates are higher for hemodialized patients. HCV-infection and related disease control are very important for achieving high quality of life for HD patients. These infections are one of the most important factors in decreasing survival rates. Diagnosis of HCV infection and treatment for HD patients presents some problems. In this article, the clinical pitfalls of HCV-infection diagnosis and clinical applications for beta-interferon treatmentare briefly reviewed.
