| [ Summary ] | Hemodialysis patients are at higher risk of HBV and HCV infection because of increased exposureto blood products, shared hemodialysis equipment, frequent breaching of their skin, and immunodeficiency. To prevent HBV and HCV infection in hemodialysis patients, all dialysis programs should implement screening and vaccination policies as well as strictly adhere to standard precautionary procedures. Routine serologic testing for HBV and HCV infection markers, isolation of HBsAg-positive patients in separate areas, HBV vaccination, continuous education for patients and dialysis staffs are key elements of hepatitis prevention programs. | |
