[ Summary ] Hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) viral infections are common in hemodialysis patients, along with reported high prevalence and incidence rates. The development of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma is a serious complication of these infections. Even if the level of serum alanine aminotransaminase shows mild abnormalities, these patients may have accompanying chronic hepatitis. With the increase in the number of long term of dialyzed patients, it is thought that HBV and HCV infections will become a more serious problem in the future. Therefore, the management of these infections is very important. Systemic monitoring of hemodialysis patients with chronic active hepatitis must be done at least every three months or even more often. This should be bydone through measurement of tumor markers and ultrasonographic examination.
