[ Summary ] |
The prevalence of HBsAg in hemodialysis patients was 3%, which was higher than the 1.3% reported in the general population. The prevalence of anti-HBs was also highly suspect in transmission through blood transfusion and other treatments. The prevalence of anti-HCV in hemodialysis patients was 24% in 1994, which was much higher than the 1.2% observed in the general population. It then decreased to 9.84% in 2007. Several reports have suggested that the prognosis for HCV-positive patients is worse than for HCV-negative patients whether they have apparent liver injury or not. The prognosis for these patients after interferon therapy is not clear. |
