[ Summary ] Since approximately 40% of children who require maintenance dialysis have renal hypodysplasia (RHD), management of RHD is necessary. Over the past decade, the five year survival rate for children with end stage renal disease has exceeded 90%. Therefore, the current target for long term management of these children is advancement of quality of life (QOL). However, there are still delayed diagnoses or patients who experience diminished QOL attributable to improper management. Early commencement of treatment and appropriate management for these children ismandatory to prevent complications due to renal insufficiency. Preparation for dialysis and renal transplantation requires precise timing. The ultimate aim of management for these children is to obtain near normal development.
