[ Summary ] Medical staff members tend to work under a certain degree of stress. We present the case of patient who was working as a nurse and diagnosed with depression because of job-related stress. Methods are discussed to decrease stress related incidents and to prevent depression. In relation to this, it is especially important to reform working conditions and promote self care for stress. Two useful methods for examining the job-related stress are illustrated. We also discuss self care techniques, including recognizing signs of stress, avoiding stressful situations, reducing fatigue, learning relaxation methods, talking with others, and developing ways to be able to have less stressful thoughts. It is especially important for staff members working in hemodialysis units to recognize the significance of self care, which may lead them to have less stressful thoughts.
