[ Summary ] It is important for dialysis patients to maintain their nutritional status through adequate nutritional intake. It is possible these patients have protein-energy malnutrition(PEM)due to decreased nutritional intake or dysphagia related aglutition. This is particularly true in elderly dialysis patients and those with histories of cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it is essential that they receive elemental nutrition with their meals to prevent malnutrition. In cases where tube feeding (including gastrogavage) is employed, management of water restriction and nutrients is necessary. It is important that all staff members check nutrient levels being delivered with elemental nutrition and choose appropriate elemental nutrition formulas in consideration of the condition of their patients.
