[ Summary ] Proper informed consent (IC) should be based on sufficient capacity to make treatment decisions. Unfortunately, such capacity may be impaired in patients with advanced stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to uremia. In fact, we were formerly sure that predialysis CKD stage 5 patients' (n=26) ability in terms of competence to consent to treatment was impaired partly due to concentrate. Therefore, when we obtain IC under such conditions, we must take into account the possible impairment of ability to make competent decisions.
