[ Summary ] There are regional disparities in dialysis therapy in four areas of Yamagata prefecture. One area having a shortage of hemodialysis(HD)clinics, the Okitama region, has a higher proportion of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients than other areas. In these areas, a system to share limited medical resources is required. Home dialysis therapy utilizing PD and home HD, could become an important modality. It is very important to give information to patients in the early phases of renal disease concerning dialysis therapy and characteristics of regional treatment.
