[ Summary ] Informed consent (IC) for renal replacement therapy (RRT) is very important for patients and doctors. Decisions concerning IC must be made quickly when patients are determined to have endstage renal failure. The most common RRT treatment tends to be hemodialysis, as opposed to peritoneal dialysis or renal transplantation. We must prepare patients for initiation of RRT slowly and by explaining the three types of RRT. Proper RRT initiation leads to improvements in patients' prognoses and QOL.
