[ Summary ] Chronic disease patients and their families are strongly interconnected. Nursing staffs play important roles in providing support for these patients and their families with chronic disease. In this article, a trial concerning family classrooms, which is one of the programs that applied for the social support is explained. In the administration of family classrooms, we need to understand the family relationships of patients with chronic diseases. Determination of the wants and needs of both chronic disease patients and their families, and programs of family classrooms which consist of discussion of participants are vital. Interventions drawing on the power of patients’ families are more effective than methods employing one-sided knowledge, derived only from the patient's point of view.
