[ Summary ] An important factor in chronic kidney disease (CKD) treatment is maintaining residual kidney function for as long as possible. In order to accomplish this patients need to understand the ramifications of the disease early on and that treatment be initiated as soon as possible. At this time, there are five clinical paths which must be followed for CKD treatment, in relation to stage. Therapy should be determined in concert with attending physicians. QOL for CKD patients may be improved by proper choice of treatment modalities and patient cooperation with those treatments.
