[ Summary ] Support related to learning and treatment greatly influences the attainment, maintenance and enhancement of the QOL for patients with chronic renal failure. Coaching, which is a communication skill for developing the potentials and motivation of the client. It enables the client to act more independently while comprising the following three basic skills: "listening", "approving", and "asking questions". In addition, establishment of flow is essential to coaching. We present the "GROW model", a coaching technique developed by Sir John Whitmore that consists of five basic steps, and review the application of coaching techniques necessary for learning support.
