[ Summary ] Diarrhea is a common disease complication in patients receiving ongoing dialysis. The causes of diarrhea include infectious enterocolitis such as bacterial enterocolitis, antibiotic associated diarrhea (i. e. Clostridium difficile related pseudomembranous colitis), and MRSA enterocolitis, as well as overuse of laxative agents. Recently, outbreaks of Norovirus have been reported in many hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Therefore, when dialysis patients are suffering from vomiting and watery diarrhea in winter, dialysis staffs should suspect the presence of Norovirus gastroenteritis, and prevent its outbreak through standard precautions.
