[ Summary ] Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is evaluated primarily from a medical point of view (renal function and resultant symptoms and signs). It is necessary to judge whether ADL and QOL obtained through RRT maintain or increase patient status. This is necessary not only for patients, but also for society as a whole. The medical community in particular, highly values the quality of life achieved through medical interventions.
The selection of “non-dialytic treatment” must be made after fully considering the following : (1) extrarenal vital organ dysfunction, (2) estimated prognosis, (3) the patient's situation surrounded by society and their family, and (4) the patient's clear-cut desires.
