Theme Present Status of Peritoneal Dialysis in Japan
Title The present status of PD in Japan
Publish Date 2008/02

[ Summary ] In Japan the rate of peritoneal dialysis gradually decreased to 3.6 % at the end of 2005 because of EPS problems. To establish PD treatment in Japan, an original guideline, based on the good research papers with high evidence levels, must be implemented. Because there have been few of these papers published, there have been some difficulties in establishing an original guideline. At the end of 2005 the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy first collected exact data concerning PD patients including the prescriptions, peritoneal function and other factors. In the near future, a guideline based on an analysis of the relationship between patients and care givers, technical survival rates and PD prescriptions should be created.
