[ Summary ] The management of dialysis patients who have dementia is sure to become a high-priority issue in the future due to the increased number of elderly dialysis patients and the prolongation dialysis treatment. A measure which should be taken early on is to detect cognitive symptoms. Also cooperative measures should be taken with the patient's family. Treatment options must be considered on an individual basis depending on the personality of the patient. However, we should treat the patient from a standpoint that affirms the person's dignity through reverence for their age and defends their dignity. It is also important to share patient care decisions with staff members when concrete measures are decided on.
