[ Summary ] The number of home peritoneal dialysis (HPD) patients who are senior citizens has not increased greatly in Japan. This is in spite of the fact that this treatment has many merits, including the possibility of in-home treatment However, HPD systems need to be improved to make them more user friendly. To reduce anxiety on the part of these patients and their families, information concerning this treatment must be provided. Information on social programs to support HPD patients must also be provided. All of the above information may be employed to lighten the burdens experienced by these patients and their families.
