[ Summary ] Several types of agents, namely, ascorbate, 1-carnitine and androgens have been adopted as adjuvant therapies not merely for erythropoiesis-stimulating agent hyporesponsive renal anemia but also for economic reasons. Other agents including several vitamins and zinc, as well as a variety of dialysis measures have been employed as well. Because of insufficient evidence all of the above treatments must be used based on sound judgment, keeping in mind the responsibility of physicians.
