[ Summary ] The reason home hemodialysis (HHD) will become necessary in the near future is that circumstances concerning the medical environment must be adjusted to the decreasing dialysis patient load in the next 5 years. Increases in the number of dialysis facilities and medical staff can not be maintained along with high-quality dialysis therapy, due to regulations by the National Health Insurance, Program, concerning dialysis facilities.
HHD patients hoping for continued HHD must adapt. Presently HHD is determined to be feasible when there is a familial helper and when self centesis is possible.
Home hemodialysis is a self managed dialysis therapy for end-stage chronic renal failure patients. Therefore, dialysis efficiency is higher than that seen with in facility dialysis. As a result, vital prognoses also improve, because the QOL is increased in patients receiving home hemodialysis.
