[ Summary ] Investigations were carried out on the Hokuriku dialysis facilities in 2005 concerning support and problem points / current situation of elderly maintenance dialysis patients. The notable aspects of pain and its treatment were that pain and itching were generally distributed throughout the entire body, with one to two locations exhibiting the strongest symptoms, and a mean strength of 3 - 6. Treatment consisted of various trials and endurance and patience of those treated was a factor. Those factors had a large effect on the independence and overall health of elderly maintenance dialysis patients. These can cause QOL to decrease, and this suggest the necessity of developing urgent treatment methods. Furthermore, in order to allow patients to spend their final years confident and trust to themselves, it is important to engage with psychological support methods as well. It is necessary to find ways of getting closer to their daily lives, by paying careful attention to what elderly maintenance dialysis patients say, in order that they may “tell” their hidden feelings freely.
