[ Summary ] Dialysis treatment has become prevelent for the elderly. The basic factors concerning dialysis for the elderly include a reduction in autonomic nerve functions, decreasing fluid removal rates and increasing dialysis treatment time. If these factors are kept in mind, hypotensive events during dialysis may be reduced and ischemic injury to vital organs of the cardiovascular and cerebral nervous system may be lessened. In addition to maintaining physical strength, in order to have increased quality of daily life, maintaining residual renal function and good nutrition, along with prevention of infection and early detection, are also very important. Dialysis for the elderly is outlined here from the viewpoint of clinical practice.
