[ Summary ] Elderly people have particular clinical features such as a high number of diseases, specific drug metabolism, body size, and even body composition. Memory disturbances may affect treatment. Therefore, comprehensive approaches are more appropriate than specific approaches. Although various physiological functions deteriorate in the elderly, the degree of deterioration varies from individual to individual. Deteriorating functions, such as visual or auditory acuity, increase the risk of falls. Deminished sence of taste leads to lowered nutritional conditions, which contribute to low QOL. Changes in appearance, including skin, body build, and height may produce psychological damage. Functional changes in the kidnies or heart, or changes in hormone levels affect the selection of treatment for the elderiy. This is due to changes in drug metabolism and / or drug sensitivity. Individual variations are great in the elderly compared to young or middle age groups. Therefore, laboratory tests should be carefully evaluated and treatment must be individualized.
