Interest in terminal care has spread nationwide and dialysis therapy is not an exception. While the patients' own intentions are most important, the questionnaire survey revealed that they could not propose a definite policy though they doubtlessly are aware of these topics. Although dialysis doctors in charge often encounter situations in which they are obliged to make judgments on ethical problems involving their patients, most of them are hard pressed to find someone with the proper advice. Preparing places to accommodate patients in preterminal and terminal stages must be accomplished before examining any concrete plans for terminal care, the care desired by patients and dialysis staff. This goal must be achieved and then concrete end of life care should be established. |
