[ Summary ] The Japanese standards for hemodialysis water conform to strict specifications for endtoxin concentrations but not microbial detection. After the development of ISO water standards for hemodialysis, microbial detection was considered in Japan. The present water standards for hemodialysis should be regulated to meet ISO standards. Moreover, the indications for this standard in dialysis modalities should be recognized in relation to the newly adopted Japanese standards.
