[ Summary ] Trends in qualifications and characteristics of continuing education for nephrology nursing in the United States are described. This information is provided to aid the continuing education of nurses who will be engaged in kidney disease treatment in our country. The Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) authorizes 4 nephrology nursing titles and prescribes the degrees as well as clinical experience and number of continuing education credits necessary for their acquisition.
The characteristics of continuing education for nephrology nursing in the United States include : (1) making sure those covered under the four NNCC classifications receive fair promotions, (2) the American Nephrology Nurses' Association (ANNA) and NNCC provide financial aid to nurses and researchers in the form of scholarships, awards, and research subsidies and (3) an environment that facilitates education has been furnished by providing educational programs online.
