[ Summary ] Prevalence rates of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation in end-stage renal failure patients were 6 : 1 : 3 in the United States (US) in 2005. Prevalence of CAPD was about 20 % in Canada, although it had been almost 50 % previously. Mean value of Kt / V for urea reached to 1.4 jumping over 1.2 of the standard value of K / DOQI guideline, because the dialysis patients in US have been treated with thrice weekly, approximately three times per week basis using 300 to 450 ml / min. However, dialyzers are reused frequently in US, and each dialyzer is reused almost 30 times. The 5 year survival rate in US was approximately 25 %. The prevalence of renal transplantation per one million in population was 55.2 and 34. 7 in US and Canada, respectively in 2003.
