[ Summary ] Recently, chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become increasingly recognized as a global public health problem. A CKD initiative is urgent task, not only because CKD is a big reserver for increasing number of hemodialysis patients, but also because CKD is a serious risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. To achieve, this goal requires an alliance of physicians, patients, government agencies as well as nephrology specialists. In this article, the significance of a CKD initiative will be reviewed, and perspectives will be addressed.
