[ Summary ] In order to prolong vascular access for hemodialysis, it is essential to avoid iatrogenic complications such as puncture errors. Because the level of skill with puncture technique affects the patient trust basic knowledge of vascular access should be mastered using practice models. Stabilization of circulatory dynamics and careful auscultation are important to prevent stenosis and / or occlusion of vessels. The causes of complications such as hemorrhage, hematoma and infections must be understood. Early discovery and early diagnosis must be routinely strived for since delayed response times may increase the severity of conditions. Measures to prevent complications are explained simply and repeatedly to patients. However, we must not forget to provide specific instructions to the patient for early discovery of complications.
