[ Summary ] To provide appropriate care, it is essential to understand individual patients, including their physical and mental condition, as well as other problems the patient may be facing. Useful information can be obtained through daily conversations with the patient and by observing patient facial and body expressions. To confirm the patient's condition, vital signs, blood tests and / or X-ray examination are helpful and sometimes essential.
During operating hemodialysis, safety measures, appropriate treatment methods and vital signs should be monitored. In addition, the patients' self-management progress and the patients' mental condition can be monitored at bedside.
From those observations and the information gathered, assessment of patients' condition can be made, allowing us to provide appropriate care including education, support and necessary medical treatment. To make assessments at the patients' bedside, during hemodialysis, nephrology nursing expertise is required. Continued efforts for self education and training are necessary to maintain and improve this expertise.
