[ Summary ] In order to determine the optimal operating conditions for each dialysis patient, dialysis dose should be precisely measured by using urea kinetic modeling (UKM). Although there are many factors affecting dialysis dose with UKM, time averaged concentration (TAC) is the most important factor. It may be estimated by employing two parameters, G / V, Kt / v. Kinetics for larger molecular weight solutes should be applied for multi-compartment models. Cellular clearance (Kc), for example, is also an important factor in a 2-compartment model composed of intracellular and extracellular compartments. Clinical approaches to increase Kc values by enhancing solute transfer through cellular membranes are reported.
