[ Summary ] Survival rates for hemodialysis patients in Japan are well known to be overwhelmingly better than those in other developed countries. A major contributing factor is the medical payment system, providing longer term dialysis. Furthermore, the statistics provided by the JSDT survey suggest other contributing factors.
However, factors such as dialysis treatment time, which affects the survival of patients, have been included into the general medical payment systems. The continued superiority of dialysis in our country should be entrusted to individual dialysis facilities. Based on the results of the survey, we need to reformalate dietetic therapy for dialysis patients to maintain the present quality of dialysis treatment in Japan.
