[ Summary ] Cerebrovascular diseases (CVD) are the third leading cause of death in patients with chronic renal failure. Management of brain edema and timing of hemodialysis and / or hemofiltration are important factors in acute strokes. Appropriate selection of anti-thrombotic agents is essential for the prevention of recurrent strokes.
Contrast mediums are needed for angiographycal diagnosis of CVD and interventional therapy, including aneurysmal coil embolization, local thrombolysis, and percutaneous angioplasty / stenting. To avoid contrast induced nephropathy, minimal use of contrast medium is very important. Sufficient saline infusion, induction of hemodialysis, and preloading of N-acetylcystein are also usefull.
