| [ Summary ] | In underpopulated areas, people are often unable to receive sufficient social services because of the lack of care workers and facilities. This is especially true in Hokkaido, where the severe climate in the winter and the long distances to facilities create additional problems. The increasing number of nuclear families and the migration of younger generations to cities necessitates that the elderly take care of each other or they live alone and take care of themselves. When their ADL declines, they must be admitted to care facilities. Even though these facilities are often insufficient, care manegers must be as concerned with patients as they are with their own families. They must establish a relationship of mutual trust between patients and themselves. They must also cooperate with patients and patients' families, their co-workers, and local comprehensive support centers. They must provide necessary support for clients, prevent clients' situations from worsening and help clients and their families to live their lives peacefully, safely, and healthily. |
