[ Summary ] Hemodialysis patients often have gastrointestinal diseases requiring endoscopic examination. Appropriate preparation of the intestines prior to investigation is important because inappropriate preparation may lead to the need for re-examination. Standard preparation is sufficient for hemodialysis patients. However, if possible, the examination should be performed on a non-hemodialysis day, when the patient has not received anticoagulant agents. Gastrointestinal movement is very poor in hemodialysis patients, consequently residual food is often observed. Appropriate preparation, prior to endoscopic examination, is required for hemodialysis patients.
