[ Summary ] The principle of SpO2 measurement, using light with pulse oximeters etc., is based on the Beer-Lambert Law. When performing SpO2 measurements at the unit in the hemodialysis circuit, it is necessary to establish two principles concerning pulse oximeters for extracorporeal circulation. Making a fixing bracket for the pillow unit and using a reflective sensor made it possible to achieve SpO2 measurement based on usual measurment principles. In clinical testing, the measurement values at the finger tip and at the pillow unit were identical and moved correspondently. The results show that this can be one promising new “patient monitoring method”.
