[ Summary ] Hemodialysis treatment is a major burden for patients, causing various physical and psychological stressors which become obstacles in their daily life.
Patients who are placed in stressful situations cope with stress factors by employing problem and emotion focused methods of coping. Recognising one's feelings is a primary factor in coping for the patient with psychological stressors who must live with his/her hemodialysis therapy. It is much more important for patients to be understood and to admit their situations such as what his/her current stress factors are and how he/she may cope with them, and to overcome their stressful situations by themselves.
Therefore, it is necessary for health professionals to appreciate their patients' situations, to listen to their stories carefully, understand their feelings, and focus on possible problems and to support patient's emotional well being.
