[ Summary ] It is very difficult for patients with chronic renal failure in the conservative phase to continue selfcare behavior, because they have few subjective symptoms. In the present study, we focused on self-efficacy, which was the main behavioral factor. As a result of this study, the self-efficacy of selfcare behavior of patients with chronic renal failure in the conservative phase was seen to be comprised of four factors which correlated with the recognition of the selfcare promotion factors, age, occupation and serum creatinine concentrations. In patient education, it is very important to provide support so they may find something to live for and to decide on priorities for selfcare behavior in daily life while providing improved emotional support. In addition, it is also effective to use the four principal sources of information that promote self-efficacy. Since the conservative phase of chronic renal failure is the run up to the introduction of patients to dialysis, we should support patients so that confidence is achieved in how to live with the disease.
