[ Summary ] The frequency of deep seated mycosis is higher in dialysis patients. Additional contributing conditions such as diabetes, catheter instilation or immunosuppressive agents, including corticosteroids, highten the risk of deep seated mycosis in dialysis patients.
Clinical diagnosis of deep seated mycosis is not always straightforward. In cases of dialysis patients, high 1,3-β-D-glucan values are sometimes confusing due to pseudo-positive results produced by some kinds of dialysis membranes.
There are seven antifungal agents we can use for deep seated mycosis since the introduction of micafungin and voriconazole. However, there is not enough data on the efficasy and safety of these newly developed antifungal agents for dialysis patients.
We outline the latest diagnosis and treatment of candidiasis, aspergillosis and cryptococcosis for dialysis patients.
