[ Summary ] To continue dialysis treatment, even in the disaster situations, and to minimize preventable death of dialysis patients in such situations, we must maintain treatment facilities and functions by creating a lifeline and overcoming various difficulties. To achieve these goals, each facility must gradually prepare a contingency plan manual and a disaster information system as key points in achieving these goals. However, contingency plans actually evolve through the real-life experiences with catastrophes and verification of the efficacy of these plans.
In this issue, experts present the difficulties which some facilities have encountered due to major earthquakes and the devices and means by which they were dealt with, along with current and future contingency plans. It is hoped that the contents of this issue are useful in reinforcing present contingency plans.
