[ Summary ] Chronic kidney diseases are associated with various bone metabolic abnormalities called Renal Bone Diseases (RBD). Today, RBD are histologically classified into 5 categories according to “bone cell activity” and “bone calcification”. The concept behind this classification is quite appropriate to express the characteristics of RBD. However, this present classification is of practically “no use” for daily clinical practice. Recently, RBD has come to be recognized as a fraction of “chronic kidney diseases-associated bone vascular diseases = CKD-BVD”. Based on this concept, the understanding of RBD is now undergoing to a paradigm shift.
