[ Summary ] Hemodialysis-induced hypotension is an important complication because it is frequent and affects the prognosis of dialysis patients. Though a variety of factors related to cardiac function, circulating blood volume and peripheral vascular resistance may cause hypotension during hemodialysis session, the single most important factor is the amount of ultrafiltration. The basic strategy is, therefore, to prevent the development of hypovolemia due to ultrafiltration. In concrete, suppression of interdialytic body weight gain and precise “pin-point” setting for an optimum dry weight are essential in all cases. In unsuccessful cases, individual treatment should be considered to control the above mentioned three major determinant factors of blood pressure.
