[ Summary ] |
Advances in renal replacement therapy have provided safe and effective treatment for end-stage renal disease patients with ocular problems. However, rapid changes in plasma osmotic pressure, and the use of anticoagulants during hemodialysis demands meticulous management. In most cases, heparin can be safely used. For patients with recent retinal complications or surgery, use of heparin should be withheld and the use of nafamostat mesilate is recommended. Low molecular weight heparin, which has longer half life than unfractionated heparin, should also be used with caution for those with high risk of bleeding. |
