[ Summary ] Dialysis patients have many complications, however, disturbances in visual acuity have not been fully examined. There were three totally blind patients (0.8 %) and nine with low levels of vision (2.3 %) for a total of 399 dialysis patients in our hospital. Although 196 patients (59.2 %) of 331 patients examined complained of several types visual disturbances, only 90 patients (45.9 %) of 196 patients had difficulties in daily life. This discrepancy may indicate that these patients compensate for their visual disturbances or most of their attention is given to other comphcations. Ophthalmological consultation may be recommended to prevent and diagnose the visual disturbance and careful assistance is needed to maintain residual visual acuity.
