[ Summary ] The incidence of early renal allograft failure has declined as a result of developments in immunosuppressive regimens. However, malignancy is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in the late posttransplantation period. The incidence of cumulative effects from immunosuppression is responsible for the increased incidence of malignancies. The risk of malignancy is increased when compared to the general population. However, the observed-to-expected incidence is not uniform among different types of tumors. Successful treatment of malignant neoplasms after renal transplantation relies on surveillance and early detection.
